I’m as patriotic as the next guy and have a faded and wrinkled DD-214 to prove it, but if I apologize for that misunderstanding 233 years ago and the subsequent five or six years’ unpleasantness, can I go home to England?

Dear Mr Obama or whoever is in charge over there.
England would like to reject Professor Devlins apology and request that he remains in the United States as England has too many Tops as is.
Further more, we thought that Professor Devlin was of Scottish decent? Surley he is apologising to the wrong country.

On a side note, Lady Jay F. Walker would like to extend an invitation to Professor Devlin with a view to take a spanking holiday at her manor house (when she wins the lotto).

I’ll take what I can get, but just so you know I’m Scots only on my father’s side. My mum’s side is English to the flipping core.

In fact Hugh Whippingham (1752-1815) notorious mayor of Cadbury-upon-Creambun in Dorsetshire is my great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather. He was a bit of rake and acknowledged 15 bastards, including my great-great-great-great-great grandfather Cyril Smackbottom-Whippingham (1799-1863) who not surprisingly changed his name to James Wood when he emigrated to the US in or around 1827.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Ladyshewolf, I would describe cj as being her typical delightful self and if you break out the toybag it should be for transgressions other than her behavior on this blog.

I think that Kristina may be sending up a distress flare of her own (the closest link I could get to fireworks) and maybe she has lit the way for LSW to find her.

Let us not blame her, let us support her in her time of need.

As for Dev’s plea to return to his homeland, I think we would be more than happy to have him. No need to apologiSe for any misunderstanding, independence is a wonderful thing and on a selfish level, I have just had a wonderful holiday in LA so I am rather glad at how it all worked out.

But one must always be free to change one’s mind. So Dev, I will put the kettle on and await your arrival.

Do you think you pick Kristina up and drop her off with LSW on your way over?

I hope that all stateside had a fabulous fourth of July.

Thank you, Poppy. Putting the kettle on may be premature at this point but I appreciate the sentiment.

And to further whet my appetite, PBS imported another BBC Agatha Christie series. Last night was Miss Marple in something about blackbirds, and tea and cakes, and public school accents, and ‘filthy weather,’ whilst the posh folk in the manor house ranted and raged and poisoned and garroted one another splendidly. It was brilliant.

No, Kristina, in your case an intervention means having your bottom smacked by Ladyshewolf with her new toy, and the closest you will come to shoes is the leather shoe sole I will use on your already rosened bottom after Ladyshewolf lets you up from over her lap.

Jay, if we could have Morse and Poirot and the weekly slaughter round Midsommer County we’d be quite pleased. Heck, we’d slurp up Foyle’s War if it were offered, but public TV is going broke and Miss Marple is all they can afford so we take what we can get.

Jay–what a pity that David Tennant is leaving the series. I thought he made an excellent Doctor!

Michael and Dev are not alone. Agatha Christie’s Poirot novels were my introduction to mysteries, and I’ve been reading them avidly ever since.
