In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
We are the Dead. Short days ago
Take up our quarrel with the foe:

Happy Veteran’s Day!
xoxo
“The original Armistice Day ended World War I on Nov. 11, 1918, but not before nearly 30 million soldiers had been killed or wounded, and over seven million taken prisoner.
Congress responded to a universal hope that this would never happen again and passed a resolution calling for “…exercises designed to perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding…inviting the people of the United States to observe the day in schools and churches…with appropriate ceremonies of friendly relations with all other peoples.” Congress later resolved Nov. 11 was to be “…a day dedicated to the cause of world peace.”
Professor your post got me thinking (yes on occasion it is a good thing), so I googled veterans day. I wanted to know the history of this day. As I grow older I find myself wondering more about why we do things. I found this interesting so just thought I would share…
Happy Veterans Day! May we see world peace in our lifetimes.
cj
Beautiful, CJ. Thank you.
-Dev
Thanks for picking up the slack for me, CJ. I woke up late and only had the presence of mind to comment ‘Happy Veteran’s Day’ this morning. Yeesh.
Bought a poppy – check
Shook a veterans hand – check times about 8 I think
Remembered the ones that didn’t make it back – We will remember them
Prefectdt
You are welcome Gwen, I am glad I was able to help out.
cj
Thanks for the thoughtful post, Dev. Thanks for the wonderful and heartfelt words, cj, Prefectdt and Gwen; and yes, Gwen, ‘Happy Veteran’s Day!’ are wonderful and heartfelt words.
Like Dev suggested and Prefectdt did, I bought a poppy and shook two vets hands today. I also flew the flag and thought of my late father, a World War II combat vet. Glad he made it back from Europe to meet and marry my mom and have his family.
I also am reaching out 3,000 miles to the West Coast and am shaking my brother Dev’s hand who is a veteran. Semper Paratus, Brother.
Thanks, Brother Michael – and a big Always Ready back atcha.
To Prefect – good lad, shaking all those hands, and no, we’ll never forget those who gave their all.
And to everyone, since I neglected to mention earlier, no matter where you live, what flag you salute, what language you speak,
Peace Is Patriotic! Only sometimes you have to fight to get it.
